About Center for Severe Storm Research CSSR Inc

Center for Severe Storm Research CSSR Inc was established on Saturday, January 01,  2001 in Van Buren County Iowa. We have been established for 17 years now. Our mission is to enhance weather awareness in the community and its purpose is to research a storms patterns and give weather information and updates to the National Weather Service (NWS).

CSSR Inc is privately owned and is not under the National Weather Service (NWS), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) or the Storm Prediction Center (SPC).

CSSR Inc is made up of volunteers, but we do call the NWS and report what the weather is doing and we do go out before, during and after a storm or tornado has hit an area or town and research the damage path and destruction it has done.

We would like to see more advanced warnings put out ahead of time to prevent another disaster like the EF5 Tornado that hit Parkersburg, Iowa on Sunday, May 25, 2008, the EF5 Tornado that hit Joplin, Missouri on Sunday, May 22, 2011 & the EF2 Tornado that hit Wayland in Henry County Iowa and Crawfordsville in Washington County Iowa on Thursday, May 3, 2012.

All volunteers must take the Basic and/or the Advanced Spotter Class that NOAA and NWS provides every year and MUST RECEIVE THEIR SPOTTER IDENTIFICATION CARD WITH SPOTTER NUMBER ON IT.

Our area of operation for our FCC business license are Van Buren County, IA; Lee County, IA; Henry County, IA; Des Moines County, IA & Clark County, MO.
